Time Walks By:

Time walked by us,
Along the way carrying minutes in its hand,
Tattered plays written on rice paper,
Or wax paper sitting in ovens lost long forgotten,
The ladies in hats strolled along shop fronts,
Store windows like ghosts of old men sitting on benches watching,
Sands of time roll on down the boulevard,
 Time walked by us,
If only for a second played like a game of pick up sticks,
 Candles flickered on park benches,
Watchers of children shadow dancing in the dark,
Scattered crayons lain amongst crumpled papers,
I watched time walk by carrying minutes in its hand,
Held the broken hearts timeless tears,
Flowed like rivers through valleys and crevices,
Dutch oven pots casting echoes in the other rooms,
Old cast iron pumps dried up wells stood against the winds,
 Time walked by us,
Long ago couples left till death does part
The ones huddled together at bus stops,
Held his sisters hand standing there in line,
lone stray dogs lapping at the waters,
 Thus voices of children's laughter,
  Old rusty playgrounds chipped paint,
 Long forgotten memories
lost in sandbox castles,
Faded pictures in magazines left in waiting rooms,
  Time walked by us,
Along the way carrying minutes in its hand,
 The old widow sitting alone,
Eating lunch next to her husbands tombstone,
A silent conversation of days held time in their hands.
